Fineprint

Read the fine print on food, in plain words.

Fineprint app icon

Scan a barcode on your iPhone and Fineprint shows what’s in the product, which additives it uses and what they are, how processed it is, and whether it fits the rules you choose. You decide what matters; Fineprint shows the facts and the exact words that matched.

What a scan shows

Per productSource: Open Food Facts
  • IngredientsThe full list, with matched words highlighted
  • AdditivesWhat each one does, where it comes from, EU and US status
  • Nutri-ScoreGrade A to E, as calculated by Open Food Facts
  • NOVA group1 (unprocessed) to 4 (ultra-processed)
  • AllergensListed allergens and “may contain” notes
  • NutritionPer 100 g and per serving, with UK front-of-pack levels

Fineprint shows facts and checks them against rules you set. It isn’t medical, allergy or dietary advice. Always read the pack.

Your rules, not our score

There’s no mystery number. Pick what you avoid and every product is checked against your list. When a rule matches, Fineprint highlights the words in the ingredient list that caused it, so you can see the reason for yourself.

  • Seed oils
  • Artificial colours
  • Sweeteners
  • Palm oil
  • Gluten
  • The 14 major allergens
  • Vegan
  • Vegetarian
  • Added sugar
  • NOVA 4

No barcode match? Read the label

If a product isn’t in the database, take a photo of its ingredient list. Fineprint reads the text on your iPhone with Apple’s Vision framework and checks it against your rules and its additive guide. The photo is never uploaded. Labels in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Japanese, Korean and Chinese are supported.
