In brief

• Fineprint is licensed to you under Apple’s Standard EULA.
• Scanning, searching and every product fact are free, with no time limit.
• Monthly and yearly Pro subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel in your Apple Account settings.

• Fineprint shows facts and checks them against rules you choose. It isn’t medical advice; always read the pack.
• Product data comes from Open Food Facts and may be incomplete or out of date.

Licence agreement

Fineprint is provided by Levani Topchishvili, an individual developer based in Georgia, and is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Standard EULA”). These terms add details that are specific to Fineprint. Where they conflict with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA wins.

The free version

Fineprint is free to download. Without paying you get unlimited barcode scans and searches, every fact Fineprint shows for every product, label reading, up to three rules of your choice, and a history that works offline. The free version isn’t a trial and doesn’t expire.

Fineprint Pro

Fineprint Pro is an optional in-app purchase. It adds all 39 rules at once, family profiles, similar products that fit your rules, side-by-side comparison of two products, and logging a serving’s nutrition to Apple Health. Pro is offered as:

Prices are listed in US dollars. The App Store shows the price in your local currency before you confirm, and that price is the one that applies. There’s no free trial. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. Apple processes all payments and handles refunds under its own policies.

Subscriptions

Monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.

To manage or cancel, open Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions on your iPhone, or tap Manage subscription in Fineprint’s settings. After you cancel, Pro stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel a subscription.

Lifetime purchase

Lifetime is a one-time, non-renewing purchase. You pay once and Pro stays unlocked for as long as you use Fineprint on a supported device; there’s nothing to renew or cancel. It can be shared with your Family Sharing group. On a new device, tap Restore purchases in Fineprint’s settings.

Not medical advice

Fineprint presents information about products, such as ingredients, additives and their regulatory status, Nutri-Score, NOVA group and nutrition values, and checks it against rules that you choose. It doesn’t judge whether a product is right for you. It isn’t medical, nutritional, allergy or dietary advice, and it doesn’t replace a doctor, dietitian or other qualified professional.

A product that “fits your rules” only means Fineprint didn’t find a match in the information available. Ingredient lists can be incomplete, recipes change, and label reading can miss or misread words. Always read the packaging, especially if you have an allergy or another medical condition.

Product data and accuracy

Product information comes from Open Food Facts, a free, collaborative database maintained by volunteers. The database is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) and product images under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA). Nutri-Score grades and NOVA groups are calculated by Open Food Facts.

Neither Open Food Facts nor I can guarantee that this data is complete, accurate or current. Entries are added by contributors and may contain errors or differ from the product in your hand. If you spot a mistake, you can correct it on openfoodfacts.org. Fineprint’s own additive descriptions and regulatory notes are a summary for general information and may lag behind changes in the rules.

No warranty

Fineprint is provided “as is”, as set out in the Standard EULA. To the extent the law allows, I’m not liable for decisions made on the basis of information shown in the app, for errors in third-party data, or for other damages arising from its use. Nothing here limits consumer rights that can’t be waived under the law that applies to you.

Fineprint isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Open Food Facts. Nutri-Score is a trademark of Santé publique France; Fineprint shows the grade calculated by Open Food Facts and isn’t affiliated with Santé publique France. Apple, iPhone, App Store and Apple Health are trademarks of Apple Inc. Product names and brands shown in the app belong to their owners.

Changes

I may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with its effective date.
